If a candidate don't use all of the money he raises during his campaign ,What happens to the surplus money?

Some save it for their next campaign, some donate it to their party's national committee.

If it's matching funds (if the candidate uses public financing), it is returned to the Treasury). If a candidate don't use all of the money he raises during his campaign ,What happens to the surplus money?
He can either keep it for future elections or turn it over to his party. I'm sure there are other options, but those are the only two that ever happen. In any case, he can't keep it for himself.
