I think the McCain people are trying to sell the idea that McCain shares Bush's commitment to fight the so-called War on Terrorism -- but that McCain will do so more competently. It is indeed a thin line to walk.
Having David Duke as a campaign surrogate would be worse. Even better... making the former Grand Dragon of the KKK his VP!

His old age seems to be a big factor to me. Because he seems to be very forgetful, saying one thing on Monday and saying the opposite on Friday worries me.
