Hitler's goals were spelled out in Mein Kampf, written during his imprisonment for the Beer Hall Putsch, before his rise to power. The motivations there are expressly racist, with Hitler presenting his vision of racial differences and Aryan predominance.He viewed the Jews not even as a lower form of human, but put them into a special category of essentially non human parasites. So from the time he came to power till the end of the war, Hitler's motivations were the expansion of German territory. The reason for that expansion was to give German ';aryans'; lebensraum. In short, he wanted to colonize lands to the east of Germany in order to populate it with proper Aryan stock who would in turn breed more Aryans to expand and eventually dominate the world. Hitler himself does not appear to have any intent of ';conquering the world';. Rather, he looked to the east, and the USSR, for the room he felt Germany needed to expand and thrive.


Of course, this land was already heavily populated, and the USSR represented not only an opposing nation of people that were ';non Aryan';, but also a political system that Hitler considered diametrically opposed to Nazi philosophy. So he both realized and welcomed that Germany would have to fight for that land. He believed this would strengthen the German people and his future Aryan empire.


The victims were any who opposed him. Numerically Soviet soldiers and civilians and jews of all occupied nations were the main victims. but anyone who opposed the Nazis politically, gyspises, homosexuals, and people with mental diseases were also killed as a part of purifying Hitler's imagined master race.
